Schadenfreude Is Not Nice
I know that. But the recent events in France sure make it tempting to indulge in that oh so human pleasure you can take in other's troubles. The French meddling in our Separatist problems going back to the Charles de Gaulle speech in 1967 is something I find outrageous. So until the rioters set that handicapped women on fire I admit I had a guilty smile on my face when watching the news from Paris.
Others have also felt this way too because they remember the recent lecturing from the French in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

John, I tried sending the following email to your yahoo account, but the bugger kept getting sent back; so I decided to post it here:
Hi John,
A quick word from a fan & fellow blogger to ask if you could possibly change your blog settings in order to stop those bloody ad/spam/auto-comments. To tell you the truth, they’re bugging the shit out of me.
Forgive me if the following is condescending: In case you’re not sure how to change your settings, just sign in to your blog as usual then click “change settings” on the dashboard, scroll down to “Show word verification for comments?”, and click the circle to the left of the word “Yes”—a green dot will appear in the circle (and disappear from the other “No” circle). Then you scroll down to the “Save Settings” box and click it. Then republish your blog index (or the whole blog if you wish). That’ll do it.
And, by the way, if you have time, could you go back and delete the damn things from your comments pages?
Right. And thanks.
And keep flaying those dunderheaded gimps in Ottawa...it does my ex-pat heart a whole hockey-sock full of good watching you scrap the scales off their backs.
Later,
